Massage Technique

In this section, you will find new techniques to use when giving massages.

Rubbing - Softly rubbing the skin.  You use the fingertips in a continuous manner.  The surface area should be broad and you can use this technique with one or two hands.

It's used for quick rest and to release emotional tension.  With this movement, the energy is distributed equally throughout the body of the patient.

Gliding - Long, slow, rhythmic movements over the skin, executed with the palm of alternating hands.

This movement is the one used to apply the oil.

Friction - With this technique you try to find deep areas where there are knots, which you undo with your fingertips.  The movement should be circular and vibrational, avoiding lineal pressure.

Relaxes the digestive organs, dorsal and lumbar pain.  In athletes as a treatment after exertion (avoid cramps).

Pinching - You place your four fingers opposite the thumb, forming a kind of clamp and pulling up the area.

A rough pinch improves muscle tone.  Especially indicated for flaccidity.

Cupped Hands - Hit the area with cupped hands.

Activates capillary circulation.

Percussion - You should press with your four fingers simultaneously, pushing up.

It is a decongestant and analgesic motion.

Passes - It consists in passing the fingertips gently over the skin, following the direction of the nerves, adding to or decreasing your speed depending on the effect you wish to produce.

Improves lymphatic circulation and releases emotional charges.  It also has a very strong sedative effect.  It is applied in a special way on the head.

Twisting - Place your hands parallel to each other and simultaneously twist them in opposite directions.

Helps with the elimination of toxins.

Chopping - This movement is done giving small hits with the edge of your hand on the area to be massaged.

It is usually used as a quick muscle relaxation mechanism, as it has a stimulating effect: the muscle stays hot, active, but without the contractions that would impede its function.
